Top Greek Female Olympians to be Honored at the 27th Filothei Women Gala

On Wednesday, June 3, 2026, the “Stelios Kyriakides” Filothei Municipal Stadium will once again welcome the track and field elite for the 27th Filothei Women Gala, marking a new chapter in the history of the event. Beyond the high level of competition, this year’s edition will carry a deeply emotional tone, featuring a special award ceremony to honor top Greek female Olympians who have competed at the Filothei Gala over the years.

Among those recognized for their contributions will be Katerina Stefanidi, the 2016 Rio Olympic gold medalist in the pole vault, who is the only active athlete among the honorees and will compete in the main event. Also honored will be Niki Bakogianni, the 1996 Atlanta Olympic silver medalist in the high jump; Katerina Thanou, the 2000 Sydney Olympic silver medalist in the 100m; and Piyi Devetzi, the 2004 Athens Olympic silver medalist in the triple jump. The same honor will be bestowed upon Niki Xanthou, who placed fourth in the long jump at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics; Olga Vasdeki, fifth in the triple jump at the same Olympic Games; Nikol Kyriakopoulou, eighth in the pole vault at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics; and Voula Papachristou, eighth in the triple jump at the 2016 Rio Olympics.

The presence of Katerina Stefanidi and Voula Papachristou adds an extra special touch to the evening, as both champions still hold the meeting records. Stefanidi remains at the top of the meeting’s historic pole vault list with her impressive 4.86m, while Papachristou maintains the top mark in the triple jump with a massive leap of 14.73m.

The crowd in Filothei will have the chance to witness up close the athletes who made history at the world’s biggest sporting events, on a night where the past and the present of Greek track and field become one.

The meeting is part of the World Athletics Continental Tour (Bronze). It is organized by AO Filotheis, co-organized by the Municipality of Filothei-Psychiko, and supported by SEGAS. The event is held under the auspices of the Ministry of Sports and the Hellenic Olympic Committee, in collaboration with the Hellenic Olympians Association and the “Make Place for One More Woman” initiative.

The contribution of the sponsors is highly significant, featuring the women’s care products company MEGA, Ideal Standard, and Adidas as a supporter. Media sponsors are ERT and Gazzetta Women.

The event will be broadcast live on ERT, as well as on the European Athletics channel for international viewers.
